Save or Splurge: Are These 5 Things Worth their Price?

oyveyaday.com
I have never been the type of woman to spend an entire paycheck on makeup, shoes or clothes – but that doesn’t mean that I don’t like nice things. The best way to get the nice things you want without busting the budget is by knowing where you can save and where you should splurge.

Clutch: Save

A great evening clutch can perfect your evening look. Although it may seem tempting to buy a YSL or Hermes clutch and flaunt their famous logos, but I say leave those for the celebrities. You won’t be attending galas or evening soirees daily. Plus, if you spend all of your money on one clutch, you won’t have the budget to get a new one if your next evening look requires a clutch in different look or color.

Perfume: Save and Splurge
You can save and splurge on perfumes. First, inexpensive perfumes are a great way to match your mood on a daily basis. You can even go for different scents each season (I especially love citrus scents in the summer).  However, sometimes inexpensive perfumes or knock-offs easily lose their scent. If you have a favorite scent that you wear often, you might want to consider splurging. The best way to buy perfumes is to find a great site where you can save money, even on popular brands. One site that sells perfumes for less is Beauty Encounter.

Lingerie: Splurge and Save
For everyday lingerie, splurge on good pieces. If you’ve ever purchased a cheap bra, you might know that the bra straps lose their elastic quickly and the pads can easily lose their form. In addition to buying a quality bra, I recommend getting a proper bra fitting – regardless of price, if your bra doesn’t fit, it won’t offer the support that you need. On the other hand, if you are looking for something a little trendy or a piece to wear under a specific outfit, I say go for value. Wacoal offers everyday essentials at great prices.

Makeup: Save
Branded makeup like Chanel, Dior and Lancome can be wonderful, however, the key to great makeup is in the application. If you know how to apply your makeup, it will look great regardless of whether you bought it at the drugstore or a top-of-the-line department store beauty counter. Drugstore brands like Revlon and Cover Girl offer great variety, so there is no reason you shouldn’t be able to find what you like.

Jewelry: Save and Splurge
Just like perfumes, jewelry is an area where you can save and splurge. Trendy jewelry is something you should buy at cheap prices since you won’t be wearing it all the time. Trends in accessories can fade quickly, so what you wore 6 months ago may not be worth putting on anymore. As for gold jewelry or those with diamonds and other precious stones, you should always invest in them. Just one pair of diamond earrings will do. Its market value will increase in the future.

Another good tip for makeup – buy mid-price range makeup, but also purchase your own makeup brushes & applicators. I’ve found that a good applicator can make up for poor quality makeup. After doing many shows (and using drugstore brands as stage makeup) and buying many different brands, I can attest that Maybelline is superior quality to Wet N Wild. But there’s no need to splurge on department store brands.

I don’t even own an evening bag.

I think the only things I really splurge on are shoes and foundation. I do not like ‘cheap’ shoes at all, inexpensive, sure, but not poorly made. I need quality shoes since I am on my feet most of the day. For foundation, I use MAC Studiofix. I’ve been using it for years and I love it. I don’t care about any other makeup–cheap mascara is my favorite and it works the best.

I generally try to save on everything, but the one area where I’ve splurged on recently would be components for my computer – since I built it myself, it’s still a better deal than buying one pre-built, but it was a little tough to talk my cheapskate self into buying some of the parts!

I typically don’t splurge on jewelry, but I will say that Lancome has some great make-up! I just can’t bring myself to buy it most of the time. :)

I love my makeup but I definitely love brands like CoverGirl and Almay — affordable and quality makeup! Definitely a save product

I liked reading your ideas! I splurge on good makeup/skin care. I sometimes find fashion at wonderful prices and am able to save. For perfume, I often use essential oils. Often, I’d rather save up for something nice.
