Spring Garden with Miracle-Gro Organic Choice – Take One

We love the benefits of a backyard garden. Not only do we get great food for our table, we also help the environment and teach our kids about responsibility and earth-friendly practices.

After the harsh winter this year, we were excited to start planting our garden. As soon as the weather turned warmer, and the average temperatures were expected to stay above freezing, we started planting.

Because we want the best food, and the most environmentally-friendly garden, we used Miracle-Gro Organic Choice soil as our foundation.

The first week or two went great. The weather was perfect for the garden – warm with just the right amount of rain.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature wasn’t done with winter just yet.

Last week, we had three nights in a row where temperatures were below freezing. The basil, bell peppers, carrots and cucumbers definitely didn’t survive the cold temps. The tomatoes, and a few other items are iffy.

Thankfully, it is still early in the growing season.

Spring Garden with Miracle-Gro Organic Choice – Take Two

This weekend, we bought new cucumber, tomato and basil plants. The good news is that we still have a great base. Our Miracle-Gro organic soil is sitting in the garden waiting to nurture our plants once the weather is agreeable.

Miracle-Gro Organic Choice line offers fully organic soil, potting mix and plant food. Products that we are using in both our raised garden and our container garden. They also offer great information and gardening tips at Miracle-Gro Learn And Grow.

We may still have weeks to go before we can eat our garden’s bounty, but we are already working on recipes. We love salad, so much of what we grow will be turned into delicious salads with tasty vinaigrette dressing.

I hope we get enough tomatoes and cucumbers this year to make several batches of cucumber & tomato salad as well as my favorite pasta salad. The pasta salad is made with shell pasta, tomatoes, cucumbers, fresh basil and an oil, garlic and white wine vinegar dressing

For most of us, the focus of a garden is often the end result – the delicious recipes your family will enjoy. However, focusing on where it all starts is equally important.

As a mom, I feel better knowing that my kids will be eating homegrown herbs and vegetables that were grown in Miracle-Gro organic soil. Miracle-Gro Organic Choice products are better for the environment and better for my family.

Miracle-Gro Organic Choice products are available at major retailers in select markets.
