With the advent of stainless steel appliances, art-covered refrigerators are becoming a thing of the past. Like most moms today I am left wondering how to display the masterpieces of my budding Picasso and Warhol.
I have seen a lot of cute ideas that either require a lot of money or a lot of work. I am not willing to spend the money to buy a fancy display system – nor am I willing to scour flea markets for cute frames and then spend time spray painting all of them and hanging them on the wall.
So, what’s a cheap and lazy, er I mean busy mom to do if she wants to display the piles of artwork her kids produce?
(There are several styles of 3M Command Hooks – look through the options and decide which one works best for your decor. They even have new ones out that are completely clear, so they would blend into the wall even better than the ones we used.)
To create the wall display, just follow the simple steps below:
- Place the hooks along the wall where you want the display.
Tip: Place the two outside hooks first, and then fill in the space in between with additional hooks at (somewhat) evenly spaced intervals.
Tip: Keep in mind that the art can get heavy, so you need to use enough hooks to support it all.
- Wrap the picture wire around the first hook, then stretch it to the next hook and wrap it around that hook. Repeat these steps until the picture wire stretches all the way to the last hook.
Tip: The ends of the picture wire may be sharp. To avoid scratching the wall, bend them under or wrap a piece of clear tape around them.
- Snap the name badge clips along the length of the wire, and then use them to hang up the artwork.
Each week, we update the artwork displayed along the wall. It is a lot of fun and the kids love having their artwork displayed at their eye level.
